WASHINGTON, March 8, 2021 — Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack designated four North Carolina counties as primary natural disaster areas. Producers who suffered losses due to recent disasters may be eligible for United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans.

The competitive grants will support the development of urban agriculture and innovative production projects through two categories, Planning Projects and Implementation Projects. USDA will accept applications on Grants.gov until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on March 27, 2023.

USDA Reopens Program Sign-Up to a Larger Share of Producers with Plans to Expand Outreach and New Programming
This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts.
